Facility Services is responsible for the oversight of all of UWSP’s Physical Plant, which means all university-owned property and its internal and external infrastructure, including our roads, sidewalks, and grounds and our utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electricity. In essence, UWSP is a small city. Its population includes 8,800 students, more than 400 faculty/teaching staff and 400 non-academic staff, as well as community members who use campus resources. The main campus consists of more than 400 acres of land with 35 major buildings—a total of more than 2.5 million gross square feet of space, 2.5 miles of steam lines, 21 acres of roofs and 2.1 miles of electrical lines.

In addition to this responsibility, Facility Services has two main roles on the UWSP campus: stewardship and service.

Our stewardship—to our students, to the taxpayers of Wisconsin, and to the buildings themselves—requires us to spend allocated funds wisely in the upkeep of UWSP’s physical resources for the benefit of today’s campus community and for future generations of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Diligent stewardship means that buildings and building systems are maintained well and that alterations, modifications, or renovations are properly planned and designed to allow continuous functioning over time. Most importantly, we are stewards of the environment. Facility Services is committed to purchasing and using environmentally and socially responsible materials, products and services. We constantly strive to conduct business in the most sustainable manner possible.

Our second role—service—supports and facilitates the success of the University’s academic and public service missions. Our goal is to provide quality service in a safe and timely manner.

Our highly dedicated, motivated, and experienced employees take pride in providing stewardship of and service for the campus, and we strive to use the resources we have to support the best possible environment for learning, teaching, living and recreation.

We are always looking for ways to improve. This Facility Services Web site is one small step toward improving our communication with our customers and campus colleagues so that we can better understand each other's needs and roles. As we continue to change and improve our services, we will work hard to keep you appropriately involved and informed.
