UALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling
or social work preferred, Bachelor's degree in related field or persons holding
a teaching credential will be considered. Similar experience required.
Administrative experience essential. Able to complete paperwork, supervise staff
and students per program requirements. Familiarity and sensitivity with
educationally disadvantaged, low income/first generation college candidates a
definite asset. The ability to work well under a variety of conditions, evaluate
residential hall staff and participants. Live-in position. American Red Cross
First Aid and CPR Certifications an asset. Upward Bound Alumni are encouraged to
apply. A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive state motor pool
vehicles are required. Knowledge of TRIO Programs and/or TRIO Alumnus a definite
plus.

ESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer and direct a
residence hall housing approximately 55 educationally disadvantaged participants
for 6.5 weeks from June-August. Provide supervision/duty schedules for four (4)
residence hall Tutor/Advisors and three (3) Residence Hall Desk Staff. Train
staff to monitor and provide direction to participants. Ensure safety of program
participants and staff. Must be able to deal effectively with conflict, stress,
and ambiguous situations. Have the ability to diplomatically and expeditiously
deal with a large variety of people (faculty, staff, participants, relatives,
visitors, campus workers, and the general public. . . including unwelcome
intruders). Display a tolerance of participants/staff/parents/public with widely
differing viewpoints/opinions. Develop and implement a program of residence life
as an integral part of a seven (7) day a week total immersion,
educational/cultural/recreational program. Assist in general participant
development through counseling. Function as a role model to staff. Provide
evaluations of participants during and at program termination. This is a live-in
position. Room and board is provided. Administer Participant Disciplinary Code
system and Upward Bound Summer Program Staff Rules/Regulations.

THER:
Salary is paid monthly. Supervision provided by the Program Director. This
position is contingent upon federal grant funding and will be 6.5
weeks in duration. Valid driver's license required.
Able to work long hours under pressure.
Background checks are performed on all applicants interviewed. *Provide
chaperone assistance to participants engaged in field trips as instructed by
Program Director.
*As required, provide to a
maximum of eight (8) participants similar services as that of a Tutor/Advisor.
*Work constructively with the Coordinator/Academic Advisor to satisfy
participants’ academic needs.
*Mediate staff conflicts, as needed.
*Able to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
*Evaluate program staff and students.
*Serve as group leader on a camping trip and sleep outdoors.
