Position:
Assistant Professor of Education (Education Generalist)
Position Description:|
Teach undergraduate courses in multicultural pluralistic teaching and
secondary social studies methods to pre-service education students. The
position will also involve graduate course instruction, serving as a faculty
resource and outreach activities focused on reaching populations
under-represented in programs for educator preparation, as well as supervision
of field experiences, advising, mentoring, service activities, research and
professional development.
This is a nine-month academic year appointment. Summer teaching may be available.
Department/University Description:
The School of Education is located within the College of Professional
Studies, offering majors in elementary, early childhood and exceptional
education to approximately 700 undergraduate students. We also offer teacher
certification for approximately 900 secondary majors and provide graduate level
education and certification programs for approximately 1800 students.
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is the only degree-granting institution in the north central part of the state. Founded in 1894 as a teacher-training institution, UWSP now offers 50 undergraduate majors and confers master’s degrees in 12 disciplines (including Education). Enrollment surpasses 8,000 students. Qualifications:
Required: Earned doctorate (or ABD) in education or
related field; successful teaching /administration in k-12 and college or
university settings.
Preferred: 3 years k-12 teaching under license; experience & expertise in cultural/linguistic diversity and secondary social studies methods.
Desired: Experience with college-level instruction.
Appointment Date:
August 27, 2008 .
Terms of Employment:
Tenure-track, assistant professor.
Salary based on qualifications and experience.
