Visual Resources Curator and Instructor in Art Appreciation
Position Description:|
Image Collection Curator and Instructor in Art Appreciation.
Responsibilities include overseeing and expanding the Art Department’s
collection of slides, digital images and other teaching image resources, and
teaching two sections of 100-level Art Appreciation for non-Art Majors. The
successful candidate must organize the activities of student employees (give
work assignments, maintain consistent filing standards, schedule working hours
for payroll, etc.), handling all aspects of both conventional slides and digital
imagery (filing slides, obtaining and cataloguing new images—primarily
digital—establishing and organizing a viable digital image database, organizing
access and distribution of digital images, etc.). The successful candidate
will also teach two sections (one preparation) of 100-level Art Appreciation
(world art history) for non-Art Majors. Must also participate effectively in Art
Department governance, faculty meetings, etc.
Department/University Description:
Stevens Point is a small city of 25,000, in a greater metropolitan area
of ca. 40,000, in a scenic rural setting in central Wisconsin, half an hour
south of Wausau and an hour and a half north of Madison. In addition to the
University, agriculture, paper and insurance are the major industries in the
area. Cultural diversity is limited, but enriched recently by the arrival of
numerous Hmong and other south and southeast Asian immigrants and active
recruitment of international students and faculty by the University. The
University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point is a fully accredited 4-year liberal arts
campus in the University of Wisconsin system. The Department of Art and Design
is a NASAD accredited studio art program offering B.A. and B.F.A. degrees in
2-D, 3-D or Graphic Design, as well as a minor in Art History. The department
shares the magnificent new Noel Fine Arts Center with three other departments in
the College of Fine Arts and Communication: Music, Theatre & Dance and the
Suzuki Center. The art department also has close links with UWSP’s nationally
praised Office of International Programs.

Qualifications:
Masters in an appropriate field, either MA / M. Phil. in Art History
with appropriate additional computer and organizational or curatorial skills, or
MLS with appropriate knowledge of Art History. Ability to work congenially with
faculty and students. Ability to organize activities of student workers.
Ability to teach at the introductory college level. Ability to use all computer
equipment and applications needed for overseeing a digital image collection
(e-mail, database, some digital image processing and word-processing are
required). Finalists will be subject to background checks.

Terms of Employment:
Full Time Associate Lecturer, Academic Staff. Salary is competitive,
commensurate with experience and qualifications.
