Position:
Director of Academic and Career Advising
Position Description:
The Division of Student Affairs invites applications and nominations for
the position of Director of Academic and Career Advising. The Director is
responsible for the development and implementation of programs and services to
address the academic advising needs of undeclared students and the career needs
of all students and alumni. The Director also provides leadership and direction
for the Office of Student Disability Services.
Department/University Description:
UWSP is consistently ranked as one of the top ten comprehensive public
universities in the Midwest and the city of Stevens Point as one of the top 100
places to live. Located in the center of the state on the Wisconsin River, the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point serves 8800 students and employs 950
faculty and staff. The Director of Academic and Career Advising supervises a
professional staff of eleven advisors and an administrative staff of three. The
Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Qualifications:
Required: Candidates must hold a master’s degree from an accredited
institution in student development, counseling, higher education administration,
or a related field. Candidates must provide evidence of successful professional
work experience in a higher education setting working with students, alumni,
faculty and parents for a minimum of six years. Candidates must provide
evidence of prior staff supervision. Candidates should demonstrate a working
knowledge of student development concepts and provide evidence of leading
successful programs focused on student achievement. Candidates will be expected
to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a
commitment to diversity programming.
Appointment Date:
August 1, 2008
Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time, annual academic staff appointment. Salary
commensurate with experience.
