Position: Associate Institutional Planner 

Position Description:
The primary focus of the Institutional Planner is to support the institutional research and policy analysis function at UWSP by conducting high quality data analyses to support continuous improvement efforts and address key areas of institutional need. This position reports to the Policy and Planning Analyst in the Office of the Chancellor.

Responsibilities include:

-          Preparing analytical information needed for decision making or to evaluate policy effectiveness or alternatives. This
           includes using a variety of data resources to assemble, analyze, and report information.
-          Assisting with administration of surveys of students, faculty, and staff; conducting data analyses; and helping to
           develop effective reporting mechanisms to support a culture of continuous improvement.
-          Overseeing and tracking completion of national surveys (i.e., Peterson’s, Barron’s, Princeton Review, etc.), ensuring
           the dissemination of accurate information about the university to external audiences.
-          Preparing written reports, visual data displays, presentations, and other written correspondence to communicate
           analyses to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
-          Performing basic web updates and assisting in web page development.
-          Participating in professional development related to institutional research and assessment.
-          Other duties as assigned to assist the Policy and Planning Analyst.         

Department/University Description:
Established in 1894, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a comprehensive regional university with approximately 8,800 undergraduate and over 200 graduate students. The four academic colleges offer 120 undergraduate program choices within 51 majors, plus 78 minors and 15 graduate programs including a doctorate in audiology. The picturesque campus includes the 275-acre Schmeeckle Reserve, which enhances offerings of the College of Natural Resources, one of the largest undergraduate natural resources program in the country. All areas of the campus are handicapped accessible.

The Policy Analysis and Planning unit serves the institution by providing the campus leadership with the information necessary to support institutional planning, decision making, and policy formation. Policy Analysis and Planning performs activities to support strategic planning, document institutional effectiveness, report to external stakeholders, and support institutional assessment, accreditations, and continuous improvement. While reporting to the Chancellor, the Policy and Planning unit also serves the other divisions of the institution, including Academic, Business, and Student Affairs.

Qualifications:

-          Bachelor’s degree (education, sociology, psychology, or related field preferred) plus two years experience with  
           educational research or assessment activities or in a position demonstrating strong analytical skills.
-          Demonstrated ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data from a range of information sources.
-          Demonstrated knowledge and experience with research methods appropriate to institutional research.
-          Understanding of basic statistical concepts and experience with SPSS or other statistical software.
-          Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
-          Extensive experience with Excel and Word.
-          The position also requires: a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to details, solid proofreading skills, ability
           to multi-task and adhere to deadlines, ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups of
           people, and adherence to ethical and legal standards in research.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (education, sociology, psychology, or related field preferred); experience in web site maintenance; familiarity with the higher education journals and literature; and understanding of UWSP mission, values, and goals.

Appointment Date: February 1, 2010 or soon thereafter.   

Terms of Employment: This is a 12-month .75 FTE Academic Staff appointment.
