Position: ESL Program Coordinator

Position Description:
The ESL Program Coordinator is a full-time administrator who reports to the Director of the International Students & Scholars Office. The ESL Program Coordinator: collaborates with ESL Program Instructors & the Director on curriculum development; monitors student achievement; acts as lead ESL Program student advisor; and ensures compliance with operating standards and program accreditation requirements. An effective working relationship with university faculty and staff is critical. The ESL Program Coordinator may teach one to three hours daily in periods of low or high enrollment or on a substitute basis in the event of an instructors’ absence. Periodic night and weekend duties are likely.

Department/University Description:
The UWSP ESL Program helps students whose first language is not English to prepare for university study in the United States. Following an intensive English-for-Academic Purposes curriculum, the UWSP ESL Program offers five 8-week instructional sessions each year. Enrollment ranges from 50-70 students per session, with 6 full-time instructors on staff. Some 80% of the program’s students are conditionally-admitted to undergraduate study at UWSP. The UWSP ESL Program is funded entirely through program revenue and is a unit of the UWSP International Students & Scholars Office within the Division of Student Affairs.

Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
A minimum f 5 years teaching experience with an intensive English program at the post-secondary level
Experience managing curriculum development & programmatic aspects of an intensive English program
Demonstrated experience with student academic advising
Demonstrated commitment to student success
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to serve as a SEVIS
    Designated School Official)

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of one year experience residing outside the United States (as an adult)
Experience teaching abroad

Appointment Date: 4 January 2010

Terms of Employment: This is a 12 month Academic Staff appointment. Position is on-going dependent upon funding.
