Position: Admissions Counselor
Position Description:
The Office of Admissions invites applications for an Associate Advisor with the
working title of Admissions Counselor.
This person will assist the Assistant Director of Admissions with the
implementation of recruitment initiatives that will reach students from a wide
range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Extensive regional travel (primarily in
Advise prospective students and their parents in individual and group
information settings
Represent UWSP at high schools, college
days/night programs, and college fairs
Provide information about admissions policies, enrollment management and
academic programs of the university to prospective students, counselors
and parents via telephone, written correspondence, and public
presentations
Coordinate tour
guide program scheduling and training
Read and process freshman applications for admission
Assist in the development of campus recruiting publications
Assist the assistant director and director in planning of recruitment activities, including ViewPoint Days and project assignments as needed.
Department/University Description:
Located midway between Milwaukee and Minneapolis
in the center of Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point offers a
wide range of academic programs to over 8,900 students.
Students enrolled within the College of Letters and Science, College of
Natural Resources, College of Fine Arts and Communication, and College of
Professional Studies experience a student-to-faculty ratio of 21:1 in the
classroom, with one in five having studied abroad by the time they graduate.
The 400-acre campus features state of the art facilities coupled with the
beautiful woodlands, marshlands and meadows of Schmeeckle Nature Reserve.
Stevens Point is a city of 25,000 and is located on the banks of the
scenic Wisconsin River. The
Qualifications:
--Bachelor’s degree required
--Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
--Must be willing to travel extensively in Wisconsin and other areas of the
upper Midwest (primarily northern Illinois and
Michigan) and must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license
--Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
--Demonstrated experience making public presentations to small and large
groups
Preferred Qualifications:
--Knowledge about UW-Stevens Point desirable
--Strong organizational skills, including experience planning large-scale
programs and/or events preferred
--Web maintenance experience desirable
--Experience leading, training, or supervising student staff preferred
--Previous experience in admissions or student services helpful
Appointment Date: Approximately August 1, 2009
Terms of Employment:
This is an entry-level, professional, 12 month, 75% academic staff
appointment (6 months full-time; 6 months half-time)
Salary: Starting salary mid- to high-20s plus full academic staff benefits
