  Fire
Pull a fire alarm and EVACUATE the building in the event of a fire. Call Protective Services at ext. 3456 or call the Stevens Point Police Department at 911 from a safe location. Don't use a fire extinguisher unless you have been trained to use it and have first called Protective Services or 911. Before opening a door, feel if it is warm. If it is warm, leave the door closed and find an alternate path. Stay low, if you encounter smoke. Smoke and gas kill more than does fire. Stop, drop, and roll should your clothes catch fire.

Evacuation
Remain calm. Use stairs and not elevators. Pay close attention to your surroundings as you exit. Incidents such as FIRE or HAZARDOUS MATERIAL RELEASES may require that alternate exit paths be selected. Please encourage residents to take an alarm or evacuation request seriously. It may save their life and will reduce the risks to responding emergency personnel. Stay clear of the building and entryways after exiting the building in order to facilitate responder access to the emergency. Do not re-enter the affected area until instructed to do so by Protective Services, hall staff/summer conference hosts, or emergency responders.

DO NOT TAKE IT UPON YOURSELF TO TURN OFF AN ALARM OR TO INSTRUCT OTHERS TO RE-ENTER THE BUILDING.
This can only be done by emergency personnel.

Do not use an elevator for evacuation needs.
Assist wheelchair users to a safe stairwell and inform responding emergency personnel of their location. Fire department personnel are trained in safe methods of evacuating wheelchair users. When appropriate, follow the posted emergency evacuation procedures.
