October 2009
Dr. Quinn Stanley and five students - Melissa Dyszelski, Jenna Bolduc, Melissa Bjorkman, Stacey Hoffman, and Kevin Hill - presented Invisible disabilities in the college classroom at the Celebrate ALL Disabilities Conference at UWSP.
Dr. Patty Caro, UWSP in collaboration with Dr.Ellen Browning, Edgewood College presented “When children Get Angry: Culturally Relevant and Developmentally Appropriate Practice” at the National Division for Early Childhood Conference in Albuquerque, NM.
JoAnne Katzmarek presented “Reading Comprehension: Two Classics Revisited” at the WI Council of Teacher of English Annual Convention in Milwaukee, WI.
Maggie Beeber and John Gaffney coordinated a Praxis II Study Group for Early Childhood, Elementary, and Exceptional Education majors to prepare students for the Praxis II exam.

Maggie Beeber, Advising Coordinator and Teacher Certification Officer was awarded an Advising Excellence Award at the Wisconsin Academic Advising Association Conference in Appleton, WI.

Dr. Quinn Stanley gave two presentations (1) A Wooden dog vs. "live long and prosper" and (2) Unhealthy sexual involvement, recover, and potential at The Mississippi Conference on Child Welfare in Natchez, Mississippi.

UWSP's Kappa Delta Pi chapter received the Achieving Chapter Excellence (ACE) Award from KDP International. This is Kappa Delta Pi's third ACE award in the last three award cycles!

Congratulations to the Class of 2009! Students graduating with an intent to teach averaged a 3.53 cumulative GPA!
The Albertson Medallion Award, recognizing academic achievement and student involvement, is the most prestigious award the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point bestows to students. No more than 1% of graduates from the entire academic year are recognized with this award each May. Seven of this year's eighteen award recipients graduated from a teacher preparation program! Congratulations to Kathryn Adams, Emily Bouche, Chelsea, Enger, Nicholas Foley, Heather Gedamke, Ciera Hiipakka, and Kristin Ross!
A total of 45 scholarships (totaling just under $46,000) were awarded to recipients at the annual School of Education Awards Banquet.
Maggie Beeber, Undergraduate Advising Coordinator and Teacher Certification Officer, was nominated by UWSP for the UW System Regent's Excellence Award for Academic Staff and was recognized as the Distinguished Friend of Health, Exercise Science, and Athletics.

Dr. Lisa Bardon gave two presentations (1) “I Used to be a Good Mom” and (2) “Addressing Student Mental Health Needs in our Culturally Diverse Schools: Lessons Learned from State Initiatives” at the Minnesota Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference in Duluth, MN on April 27 & 28, 2009.
Dr. Perry Cook and Dr. Ahmad Sultan presented a paper co-authored with Dr. Henry St. Maurice in the Education Leadership and Supervision SIG at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Conference. This international conference was held in San Diego, CA from April 13-17, 2009. The paper, entitled "Reflection Inaction: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Assessing Educators' Dispositions", was published in the conference proceedings.
