News: HOLIDAY BASKET:
Every year StWEA sponsors a local community family through Operation Bootstrap and delivers a Holiday Basket to them to make their holidays a little bit brighter! I know we are all poor college students, but we can each easily afford to donate something! Even one can of vegetables is helpful and I know each and every one of us can afford that! You could also have some fun buying a stocking stuffer to brighten a young girls eyes. If you dont have time to go out and buy a gift but still want to donate, we will also have a box for cash donations and will be buying the family a gift card for a local grocery store to buy perishable foods with. Any donation is greatly appreciated! The sign up sheet will be posted on the StWEA bulletin board outside the student organization office on the 4th floor of the CPS. If you cannot make it to the CPS building you can also e-mail me and I will happily sign you up. Please drop off your donations in the large box placed in the StWEA office in CPS 474 no later than December 14th (that is this Friday ).
The StWEA
executive board and advisors really appreciate your help and thank you in
advance for making this family's holiday brighter.

StWEA Core Values: Networking - with current and future colleagues. Being connected to the world is more effective than working as an island. Becoming connected to the association, community and each other as colleagues is critical to our success as future educators. Professional Development - Our future success as classroom teachers, our image as professionals, and our strength as public education advocates is directly correlated to the quality of teachers that we become and to the degree that we work to develop our craft. We must take the initiative to develop ourselves, beyond our college class work, as professionals to include being informed about issues such as licensure and certification. Citizen Action - Professional Development alone will not ensure our success as future teachers. We must engage in becoming knowledgeable about current public education policy, understand its impact on our future profession, and promote the civic responsibility of voting in every election. Community Involvement - Respect and support for public education professionals from our communities is important and it requires our organization to engage in community service projects and to speak positively about the profession as future public educators. Public Education - Public education is the cornerstone to a democratic society. It should employ highly qualified staff and be adequately funded so that every child, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or economic statues can receive a quality education without fear of discrimination. |
