1. From
his own mouth - Gardner speaks - Make sure your speakers are adjusted BEFORE you
start.
Using the link from WEAC, listen to Gardner talk
about his theory of Multiple Intelligences.
http://www.weac.org/aboutwea/conven97/audio1.htm
Click on the second set of interviews and
microphones and listen to Gardner's own explanations
on MI.
I am presuming that you have purchased or checked
out a book about his work.
-
Did hearing him speak about his work himself add
anything to your understanding? Why or why not?
-
What do you think? Do you like listening to him,
or reading about his work better?
-
What is the dipstick theory of intelligence and
why does he oppose it? Your thoughts?
Personally, I LOVE the term.
There is also a link to a brief transcription read
that:

2.
Article by Gardner for Atlantic
- Who owns intelligence? After reading this article,
identify 5 ideas that made you think about things in
a new way. Explain why.
http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0296.html?
3.
Multiple Intelligences after Twenty Years."
Invited Address, American Educational Research
Association, April, 2003
Compare this with the other material you have been
reading. Any new insights?
4.
Exploring both my many links on MI and/or your own
resource searches, create a selective
bibliography for distribution to parents and/or
students about MI. Remember your selections need to
be appropriate to your audiences. These may
certainly include some of the online batteries and
assessments, as well as appropriately chosen books.
More information about book selections can be found
through online vendors like Amazon. com or Barnes
and Noble. com, or through publishing houses like
Corwin Press, Skylight, Zephyr Press.
5.
What's the big attraction?
Why teachers are drawn to using Multiple
Intelligence Theory in their classrooms. On-line
article by yours truly -- yes, I know some of you
have already read the article. Please read and
pinpoint any additions you may think I have missed.
If you have sued MI techniques, do you agree, or
disagree?
6. Other side of the coin:
A criticism of MI
- the well educated person looks at both sides of an
argument or issue before making up her/his mind.
This is a well-researched article by OShea. While
there are a number of good points, I am not sure
that they lead the reader away from MI. See if any
of the points made against MI resonate. If so, why,
or why not?
7. Project Zero:
Here is the link to Homepage of
Project Zero at Harvard.
See what you can find.
http://www.pz.harvard.edu/
http://www.pz.harvard.edu/PIs/HG.htm
- Gardner's homepage at Project Zero - Click on the
link to his reflective paper on MI and read . Any
reaction an thoughts
8. Best
for last - Something to think about - Early in
Gardnerr's work he discovered and popularized the
phenomenal work of an Italian preschool system
called Reggio Emilia. This strand of PZ's pages
deals with
Making Learning Visible a movement whereby learning becomes documented by
the products and interactions of the participants.
See this link to view both the male and female
interpretations.
Follow
the PPT on the left to see what this project is
talking about. Remember as you follow this group of
kids, they are only 5. From this brief
glimpse into their processes, which intelligences
are they using? What do you think they might be like
when they are adults?
Are there any key ideas that you can use from the
principles of Making Learning Visible?
Other resources:
See if you can find any of these as full texts
online, or in the archives in hard copy. I have
asked Kim to see if she can find a online full text
resource for these to send to you. However, perhaps
as a covey of detectives (you) might be able to
ferret out some other sources. If you do find one of
these, be sure to print a copy, and save and send
the URL to others. See if you can find some other
online articles pro or con on MI and post these
resources with brief comments..
