TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The On-Site Masters Degree program offered through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a regional treasure.  At a time when the convenience of on-line courses are dramatically increasing in popularity, the UW-SP On-Site Masters Degree offers a similar convenience, while at the same time enhancing the quality of graduate work for area educators.  The program is anchored in the educator standards and the sustained development approach of professional learning communities. Dr. Donald Viegut – Deputy Superintendent - Wausau School District

“Probably the best decision I ever made was to go through this program. Developing a portfolio and keeping a daily journal has been very valuable to me. I would highly recommend this program to everyone. This program has inspired me to begin my doctorate in curriculum and education. An excellent program and I have recommended it for many educators.” Dan Rayburn-Marshfield Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’04-‘06

“This program was absolutely excellent. It was challenging in a way that stretched me to become a better educator. I have known teachers who got their Master’s Degree by having videos mailed to them and then sending back papers through the mail. I’ve heard some teachers talk about how “easy” it was to get their Master’s Degree. I want to earn my degree, not just purchase it. I value education and wanted a program with rigor.” Lorra Walton – Marshfield Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’04-‘06

“The UWSP Site-Based Master’s (Learning Community) Program has had a tremendous impact on my professional life. I continually use or think about the many topics we discussed from multiple intelligences to classroom management and leading a “balanced” educator’s life!” Becky Linzmeier- Marshfield Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’04-‘06

“…the content of our classes was “cutting edge”. Our local district has looked at differentiated instruction, standards and benchmarks, Marzano’s 9 strategies, Understanding by Design (backwards planning) and assessment (of teachers as well as students) in the last few years. All of these topics were covered thoroughly in the Learning Community. Thus I was able to appreciate and understand the direction we were heading as well as provide leadership.” Leta Vinz- Berlin Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’00-‘02

“The program helped me to embrace new initiatives and move forward as a leader in my grade level, building and throughout the district. It gave me the confidence to take risks and build new skills as an educator to benefit my school and my students’ learning.” Susan Palecek Merrill Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’02-‘04

“This Master’s program is very well developed. I got a lot out of the community building aspect. The readings were pertinent to what we were learning and what we need in the classroom. I highly recommend it for anyone considering getting their master’s degree. You [Paula] and LeAnn were excellent instructors and always made us feel successful and valuable.” Emily Bissonette- Marshfield Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’04-‘06

“Although it’s been almost four years since I earned my Master’s degree, I have very vivid and fond memories of the people and activities that we shared together…I treasure our time together and believe that we had the best of both worlds – independent learning in a collaborative model.” Laurie Pohnl Merrill Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’02-‘04

“I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to be involved in the Site-Based Master’s class. I would recommend it to everyone!” Tami Henrichs Merrill Site-Based Master’s Degree Program ’02-‘04

“When our [District] Curriculum Directors found out I had just spent considerable time designing units for UbD [Understanding by Design] in our class, they asked me to speak to the group about the benefits of using this model..… I just wanted to share that with you as an example of how what we are doing in class is right and good and how it has put us [SBMP members] ahead of the curve. Thanks a lot for doing a great job and giving us what we need to be successful.” Jay Jones -Wautoma Site-Based Master's Degree Program '06-'08
