On the premise that formal education exists for teaching students to become concerned, cooperative, and ethical  participants in a diverse society, character education can provide the means for American schools to realize their potential and maintain their integrity as a societal institution.  The following organizations and programs are devoted to character education and teaching the whole child.

Character Education Network - Sponsored by the Center for Youth Issues, this site is dedicated to providing online curriculum, activities and resources that integrate character education.

Educators for Social Responsibility - ESR offers programs, resources, and training for educators in social and emotional learning, character education, conflict resolution, violence prevention, and intergroup relations.

Teaching Virtues - Provided as an on-line supplement to the Teaching Virtues: Building Character Across the Curriculum textbook.

The Character Education Partnership - CEP collects and distributes information on educational and community programs designed to develop moral character and civic virtue.

Living Values - Living Values is a values education program offering a variety of experiential values activities and practical methodologies to teachers and facilitators. The site contains special units for use with parents and caregivers, and refugees and children-affected-by-war.

BEST Program - The BEST Program is a school-wide character education program comprised of nine character themes. A different theme is introduced each month when used in a K-8 curriculum.
