• Basic arithmetic - add, subtract, multiply, divide and raise to a power
• Fill down or right (copy a formula over many times quickly)

• Sort a table by the values in a column, whether they are numbers, letters or dates
• Make a table of names, phones numbers, addresses.  This is a simplified database or what Excel calls a "list."  Apply an autofilter to pull records from the list.
• Use Excel's 400+ functions that quickly computer averages, financial, statistical and mathematical results.
• Format cells
• "Paste special" to control what is pasted, formulas or their resulting "values"
• Learn about the Excel add-ins, such as the one called "Data Analysis" which has quite sophisticated and powerful statistical tools ready to go
• Mimic your checkbook in Excel and balance your account quickly and perfectly each month
