We’ll travel to the continents of Africa, Europe, and North America through picture book read-alouds. We’ll learn how African artists influenced European artists. Then we’ll travel back to the United States and design abstract flower pastel rubbings. Come join us for the world art tour - you’ll even get to make a mess and not get in trouble for it! Treasure Trove

Journey to France (Beginning French language and culture)

Come with us as we explore the stories of Babar, the Elephant, first written and illustrated in the 1930s in France by Jean de Brunhoff for his own children. We'll begin each day reading from a selection of the Babar stories. For our lessons in French language and culture, we'll take our cues from Babar! With him we will voyage to faraway lands, visit a Musée
d'Art, explore Celesteville with cars and mat, construct Babar's and our own family frees, learn to play "les boules" outdoors, snack in our Café
Français, sing, dance, and otherwise be merry. Come along, as together we experience the joys of learning another language. |

An American Girl Adventure-Meet Kit

Moccasins and Wigwams

Would you like to start your own business some day? Are you a future Donald Trump? Come use your math skills (fractions, money, time, and more) and your thinking skills. We’ll make clay pens and sell our wares. We’ll take a walking field trip to spend our revenue on food for a local charity, and use even more of our math skills. Don’t worry, we’ll also take breaks; you can tell your parents you’ll be using numbers to create beautiful artwork. Do you know why six was afraid of seven? It’s because seven eight nine!

Lords and Ladies, come join us for two weeks of medieval living. The King has decreed it! |

Legend of the Monkey King (Beginning Chinese language and culture)

directors, actors, or game designers should consider this class. You
could be the next JRR Tolkien, Steven Spielberg, or Shigeru Miyamoto!

From the Booth - Introduction to Broadcasting

Have you always wanted to be a sportcaster? Radio broadcaster? Sportswriter? Join us and learn about the world of sports journalism and announcing. Learn the preparation involved, skills necessary, and professionalism required. We'll practice waht we've learned from our own broadcasting booth. We'll have guest speakers who will help us understand this field. Students interested in "From the Booth" should have a strong interest in sports, journalism, broadcasting, and/or public speaking. Although "From the Booth" is designed for 6-8 graders, interested students in 5th grade may contact Mr. Keech directly at keechertheteacher@gmail.com to determine if they are a good fit for this class. |

Youth Teaching Academy is designed for youth from 12-18 years of age
who would like to develop beginning teaching skills as well as volunteer
to help an experienced teacher in a Youth in College Classroom. Fill out and return the application as soon as possible. A letter of recommendation from your current teacher is required. The participation fee is $10.00.
NOTE: If you have previously been a Youth Teaching Academy member and are returning, you do not need a Letter of Recommendation. |
