Pat Shaw and Cathy Scheder, CPS Continuing Education Outreach Program Manager, presented “Partnership Tips That Work (and Some that Don’t), at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools, Milwaukee, Wis., on March 31, 2011.

Jeff Boyer presented “A Case Study of Using Scratch for Learner-Constructed Multimedia, at the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans, La., on April 10, 2011.

JoAnne Katzmarek and Paula DeHart presented “People Making a Difference: Using Children’s Literature to Promote Compassion Community Action at the 2011 WI Council for the Social Studies Convention in Middleton, Wis., on March 21, 2011. They shared their framework for watching, speaking, listening and writing activities with stories of famous and everyday global citizens who have made a difference with their actions. JoAnne Katzmarek presented “Literacy Practices that Facilitate Social Skills Development: at the Minnesota Council for Exceptional Education Conference in Duluth, Minn., on March 2, 2011.

Lisa Bardon along with 3 recent SCEC graduates (Sarah Flohr, Stacey Larsen, and Jenna Bolduc) presented “Lessons Learned: Activities that facilitate the Development of self-advocacy Skills” at the Minnesota Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Duluth, Minn., on March 3, 2011.

Quinn Stanley had his study on “Benefits of teacher “connections” in stressful educational settings” accepted for publication in Issue 16.1 of the International Journal of Children’s Spirituality. This study investigated how experienced teachers of violent students maintained teacher efficacy. Within this study, spirituality helped to maintain efficacy through stress reduction and as a tool to connect with students. Findings suggest that spirituality is a vital component for teacher and student success.
