​Waiver Policy


Students who meet the following criteria you may apply for a waiver of either the Praxis I score requirements OR the 2.75 grade point requirements OR the Pre-Professional Interview score requirement by using the formal waiver application available in the School of Education Advising, Recruitment and Retention Office . Students may only apply for a waiver in one of these three categories. Students who are granted waivers are allowed to apply to the Professional Education Program without meeting the application requirements. 

The deadlines to submit a Waiver Application are September 11 and February 7. If a deadline falls on a weekend, the applications are due the Friday prior.

Praxis I Score Waiver Requirements

      -Requirements

  1. You have taken and received scores for the Praxis I at least twice.
  2. Your scores do not exceed a 5 point deviation from the cut off.
  3. You have grades of 3.0 or above in related coursework OR complete the
    • Professional Writing Competency Program for the Writing portion
    • Professional Reading Competency Program or the Reading portion
    • Professional Mathematics Competency Program for the Math portion
  4. You have an overall GPA from all institutions of at least 2.75.
  5. You have completed 24 credits of instruction.
  6. You have attached copies of each of your Praxis I results and transcripts from all institutions attended.
  7. You have attached a letter that includes:
    • How many times you attempted each Praxis I test
    • How did you prepare for each attempt
    • Extenuating circumstances that may have affected your score(s).
    • Your reasons for requesting a waiver

 

Type

Grade Point Waiver Requirement

       -Requirements 

  1. You have passed all three parts of the Praxis I.
  2. You have completed at least 24 credits of instruction with a GPA of 2.75 or better.
  3. Your grades show significant improvement over a minimum of two consecutive semesters.
  4. You have attached copies of your latest Praxis I results and transcripts from all institutions attended.
  5. You have attached a letter that includes:
    • Extenuating circumstances that may have affected your GPA
    • What strategies have you implemented to improve your GPA
    • Your reasons for requesting a waiver

 

Type

Pre-Professional Interview Waiver Requirements

      -Requirements

  1. You have taken and received failing scores for the Interview at least twice.
  2. You have an overall GPA from all institutions of at least 2.75.
  3. You have attached copies of the latest Praxis I results and transcripts from all institutions attended.
  4. You have attached a letter that includes:
    • How did you prepare for each interview attempt
    • Your reasons for requesting a waiver 
The Department of Public Instruction limits us to granting waivers to 10% of our PEP admitted student population.
  • Students will be ranked using 50% overall GPA and 50% largest score deviation. For those requesting GPA waiver, only GPA will be used.
  • Once students are ranked, up to 10% of each major program’s semester enrollment cap will be approved first.
  • Remaining waiver seats will be approved by rank of remaining students.
  • Final waiver decisions will be determined by the SOE Waiver Committee. Waiver approvals are not appealable.
  • Students who receive a waiver may apply to the Professional Education Program when all other application requirements are met. Grades and scores (for which a student received a waiver) will not be altered when ranking students for admission in majors with enrollment caps.
Results will be emailed/mailed within 5 working days of deadlines. Requests with incomplete paperwork will not be processed. If you do not receive a response within 5 working days, please contact the School of Education Advising, Recruitment & Retention Office immediately.
