We are looking for a great tutor in chemistry for our son, Connor, for the next 6 weeks. He would like to meet for at least five hours a week. Please contact Jean at cookpj@charter.net to discuss the details of the arrangement (location, payment, etc).

If you, or someone you know, would be qualified, available and interested to help Connor, please contact Mrs. Cook at the email address above.

Easter Seals Wisconsin Camps are looking for energetic, caring individuals to work with our campers. We are looking for counselors, program leaders and leadership staff for Camp Wawbeek or Respite Camp located in Wisconsin Dells.  Located on 400 acres, our camps serve individuals ages 3 and up with mild to severe physical, cognitive and behavioral disabilities in a typical summer camp environment: ropes course, swimming, canoeing, pontoon boating, art and crafts, trips into town and an overnight campout. The experiences and skills gained at Easter Seals camps are invaluable and the memories shared with our campers and staff are unforgettable. Join our camp team and help make a difference in the lives of hundreds or campers and their families!

Volunteer Opportunities

Thank You to Bannach Fun Fair Volunteers (NEW)

To all participating UW-Stevens Point students,

I wanted to personally thank you all for the wonderful job that you gave to us during the Bannach PTO Fun Fair. In reality, I cannot express how grateful I am for all of you and the time you donated to this event. Because of your participation many families were able to enjoy the Fun Fair for the first time.  The children were so excited to see you and looked up in awe at the participation that you gave. The smiles that you were able to give the children while showing them that “grown-ups” and staying active can be fun were priceless.

I also wanted to give another big thank you to those that helped with clean up, due to your extra time given we were able to get things closed almost 2.5 hours earlier than previous years!

I hope that we can continue this relationship into the coming years and maybe even have UWSP day here at school.

Thank you again for all your help and I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Dana Damask
Fun Fair Coordinator 2013

 Math tutor needed

The Portage County Literacy Council is looking for a volunteer to help a learner improve his math skills. The learner is preparing to take the ACT (or another college entrance exam), but needs help, especially with math. He is a young man who received special education services throughout high school and estimates himself to be at about a third grade level in math.

This volunteer position requires only 1-2 hours per week, and the literacy council will provide materials (such as workbooks and study guides) for the tutor and learner to work with.

This is a great opportunity for future teachers to gain experience practicing real-life teaching techniques over the summer, and a chance to practice developing lessons for a learner with special needs. It would look great on a resume!

Please contact the literacy council as soon as possible if you are interested in helping this young man achieve his goal of pursuing a post-secondary education. (Male volunteers preferred.) Contact our offices (located at 209 and 214 Nelson Hall on campus) by phone 715-345-5341 or email Kelly at pocolit2013kelly@gmail.com for more information about volunteering.
