The Portage County
Literacy Council is looking for a volunteer to help a learner improve his math
skills. The learner is preparing to take the ACT (or another college entrance
exam), but needs help, especially with math. He is a young man who received special
education services throughout high school and estimates himself to be at about
a third grade level in math.
This volunteer
position requires only 1-2 hours per week, and the literacy council will
provide materials (such as workbooks and study guides) for the tutor and
learner to work with.
This is a great
opportunity for future teachers to gain experience practicing real-life
teaching techniques over the summer, and a chance to practice developing
lessons for a learner with special needs. It would look great on a resume!
Please contact the
literacy council as soon as possible if you are interested in helping this
young man achieve his goal of pursuing a post-secondary education. (Male
volunteers preferred.) Contact our offices (located at 209 and 214 Nelson Hall
on campus) by phone 715-345-5341 or email Kelly at
pocolit2013kelly@gmail.com for more information about
volunteering.
