Weekly Message from
Undergraduate Advising
For the week of: November 16, 2009
Welcome to Week 12!
Yes, there are only 4 weeks to go before finals!
Registration begins today for Seniors. Current students have assigned registration dates and times at MyPoint and they go through December 4.
Here are some hints on registration:
-
It is important to register on your assigned date and time. Courses may fill up if you choose to wait.
-
Some courses will have a PR added once the course closes. This means that the department has started a waiting list and only those who get on the waiting list will be approved to add it.
-
Waiting lists:
Every department deals with waiting lists differently. You must
follow their rules.
Music Education 381 waiting list - DEADLINE for this waiting list - November 31. Maggie Beeber is responsible for the waiting list for Music Ed 381. Please see her during open advising if the course is closed. You must bring your DPR, spring schedule, planning sheets and graduation plan.
Waiting Lists Helpful Hints:
Please remember that the person you are talking to does not typically
have the authority to add students, although sometimes this IS the
case. Treat everyone with respect!
1.
Make sure you know which course and
number you are requesting AS WELL AS all of the sections that fit your
schedule (Do not say "I want the 11:00 section" as that does not tell
them what you want...but "I would like section 2." Check your catalog
or website for department phone numbers/room numbers or call campus
info. 346-4242.
2.
Get your name on as many waiting lists as
possible. You have a better chance of adding a course if you have more
than one option.
3.
Call the department that is offering the
course. Example: Psych 260, call the Psychology Department.
4.
Ask them how to go about getting into one
of THEIR closed courses. Always write down time/date you call, who you
talk to, and what you are told.
5.
Follow their directions completely! Ask
them if you should attend the first class, call to see if you got in,
etc.? Make sure to follow their directions.
6.
You can watch the computer
every day, 24 hours, to see if seats pop up. You can go on-line and
change your schedule at any time. Even though you are on waiting lists,
you can still watch the computer and add a class, if a PR has not been
added to it (Some departments add Permission Required if they have a
waiting list so that they decide who gets in once a class closes, which
is why it is important to get on the waiting list.)
Please remember that Maggie and John both have Open Advising times available for quick, one to ten minute, types of questions. If you have any questions regarding the Professional Education Program, we are more than happy to help. Open Advising is first come, first served - and the hours are listed in this Newsletter under "News about Advising."
Have a great week!
