WiCC Grants

Approximately $60,000 is available to support grants in two categories. These grants are designed to significantly enhance the quality, scope, and sustainability of student and institutional civic engagement in higher education.

  • 5-15 Citizen Scholar grants of $2,000-3,000 will support undergraduate and/or graduate students and their campus and community partners pursuing innovative and sustainable civic engagement initiatives. The purpose of these grants is to mobilize students as more powerful leaders both to educate and engage their peers in civic life and to advocate broadening service-learning across the disciplines.
  • 5-10 Engaged Department grants of $4,000-6,000 will support departmental teams and their community partners pursuing innovative and sustainable civic engagement initiatives. The purpose of these grants is to infuse service-learning (including community-based research) into departmental curricula, with a special emphasis on history and the humanities; business, education, and other professional programs; and the sciences and engineering.

Citizen Scholar and Engaged Department grants are made for one year, from October 1, 2005, to September 30, 2006. These one-year grants are not renewable. We strongly encourage campuses that have not previously received Citizen Scholar or Engaged Department grants to consider apply.
