Technology Mini-Grants

Beginning fall 1999, this program awards $50,000 to the colleges to cover small computing-related purchases in support of faculty technology needs. The amount available to our college for 2008-9 is $8,132. The CPS Cabinet, along with the College's Information Technology Specialist, George Heeres, will review applications for these funds. Amounts awarded will be transferred to departmental budgets.

Guidelines

Here are some general guidelines:

  1. Any faculty member or academic staff member with a .50% or more appointment for the academic year is eligible to apply for a grant.
  2. Staff may either apply individually or as a member of a collaborative group.
  3. Applications must be completed using the online MS-Word file. After completing the form, save the results and email to: gheeres@uwsp.edu. Applications received on paper will not be accepted.
  4. Download: MiniTechnologyGrant-Form.doc (84.5 KB)
  5. Faculty may not apply more than once during the school year. Awards after the first deadline will be awarded based on funds available.
  6. Grants must have academic or instructional application. Requests for production / "day-to-day" business uses will be declined.
  7. Grants may not be used to purchase computers, printers or PDAs. VCRs, TVs, DVDs and other audio/video (non-computer) related products are discouraged and only awarded after all other grants have been reviewed and/or awarded.

Funds may be awarded for the following possibilities:

    • software purchases for classroom preparation or experimentation for classroom application. If you need software for your students to use, check the Inter-College Grant or Intra-College Grant.
    • specialty hardware peripherals such as "CD" burners, scanners, upgrade of memory and so forth
    • computer software training or short workshops (can include travel for training).
  8. The criteria for selection by the committee will be based on:
    • quality of the idea proposed
    • need for the assistance

Amounts / Limits

Grant rewards are based on the following limitations:

  • The largest grant will be $1,000 although smaller grants are more likely, given the small amount of funds.
  • The CPS Cabinet is not bound to balance out grants proportionately to each department, but will keep equity in mind. The Cabinet may also award only a portion of the total requested by an applicant based on availability of funds.
  • Depending on the number of grants received there is the potential for two deadlines. The first deadline occurs in the first semester. If funds are remaining after the first deadline a second deadline will be established for the second semester. Recipients of awards from the first deadline are NOT eligible to apply during the second deadline.
