After growing up in Stevens Point, Sheri Bartucz, MBA, left to attend UW-Madison and study
to become a physical therapist. Early on Sheri realized that she wanted a different path so she
moved back to Stevens Point in the fall of 1986 to begin taking classes at UWSP. To follow her
passion for wellness Sheri decided to major in Health Promotion/Wellness and pursue a minor in
Business. While at UWSP Sheri ran the 1500m on the UWSP track team and became Collegiate All
Conference, and worked on campus as a Lifestyle Assistant (now Health Advocate). She was the
first ever Vice-President of the UWSP Student Chapter for the Association for Fitness in Business
(now Association for Worksite Health Promotion) and attended the Regional AFB Convention in
Cincinnati, OH. She also volunteered in the Employee Wellness department at Sentry Insurance,
and the YMCA, to gain valuable experience.
"Learn, do, teach" is something that Sheri lives by, as well as "Attitude is Everything!" By that she means- "first learn how to do something, then do it, and finally reach out and teach others." This would also include helping in and giving back to the community, a key value instilled by her parents, in many areas including the American Cancer Society and two Toastmasters Clubs. Sheri's philanthropy stems from a decision to take a proactive approach to reaching out to help others. That is why she decided to endow a scholarship that is given annually to the Outstanding Senior in Health Promotion.
Sheri hopes that through this scholarship she can help Health Promotion students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership to follow her ideals and reach out to others. It is her hope that student recipients of her award would have gained a variety of experiences by going above and beyond what is required of them in the classroom, since she believes that "life is a journey, not a destination." It is also important to Sheri to strive for personal growth, constantly improve yourself, and to keep a balance between all seven dimensions of wellness.
