The School of Health, Exercise Science, and Athletics at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point offers a program for teachers licensed in Wisconsin who wish to complete the Wisconsin 910 Add-on certification in K-12 Health Education. The program consists of a total of 12 graduate credit hours, all held on the UWSP campus.
The four graduate courses below will satisfy certification requirements for teachers with an undergraduate degree and teacher certification in another certifiable teaching area as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The final stage of the 910 certification is passing the Praxis II content exam. Please visit the DPI website for licensing information and the Praxis II website for exam information.

NOTE: Students must complete all four courses to attain certification. Attendance is MANDATORY at all sessions of each course. This is essential to gaining certification because each course builds to the next. Independent Study will not be granted in any of these four courses.
Please note that you will need access to, and comfort with, electronic technology to successfully complete this certification, as all four courses are taught using Desire2Learn (UWSP's course management system). Upon completion of the four-course learning cohort, a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required to attain DPI certification and licensure. Participants will be required to pass the Praxis II content exam to obtain certification.
This program is offered based on the number of professionals seeking add-on certification in health education. A minimum enrollment must be reached in order for these courses to be offered. If that number is not reached the courses will be rescheduled for the following calendar year.
The total cost for the 2008 - 2009 program is estimated at $4600 for tuition (summer tuition for six credits is the same as five credits) and approximately $350 for new texts. However most of the texts can be purchased used online if you choose to do so. Link to information on Financial Aid.
Summer Financial Aid gets paid to the students account a few days before the start of summer session. Summer session starts Monday, June 16, 2008.
