Field Research from the Amazon:  What to do with Material Culture? (Anthropology)

This workshop involves students working with indigenous artifacts from the Amazon, trying to decide how to classify them, how to distinguish the materials used and how to take good notes on the production and cultural significance of objects.  The items are made from natural forest products and include bird feathers, seeds and shells, as well as glass beads, wood and fibers.

Mice, Ice & Rats

We will conduct a brief metabolism experiment using live mice - comparing the metabolism of a “warm mouse” to that of a “cold mouse.” Each group and, if possible, each student is responsible for animal handling briefly.

Learning to Think Like a Psychologist

Participants will learn firsthand how Psychologists use scientific methods to gain information and knowledge about human thinking and behavior.  This will be accomplished through the completion of a series of hands-on activities, which will allow participants to learn more, and possibly appreciate better, their own impressive abilities and skills!  The completion of these activities will provide participants with a greater understanding of what it means to think like a Psychologist.

In this session, participants will learn about sky motions (daily, annual, and latitude), Reason for the seasons, and Sky phenomena such as meteor showers, aurora, comets, etc.

Veterinary Medicine

This session covers basic medicine including physical exam, heartworm testing, eye exams.  An overview of educational requirements will also be discussed during this session.
