Kurt Van Tiem, Director
Van Tiem is the founding Music Director of the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony
Program. He previously conducted the Wausau Symphony, UW-Marshfield
Symphony, UW-Marshfield Symphonic Band, University of Massachusetts Wind
Ensemble (during sabbatical leave of Malcolm Rowell) and the University of
Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble. He has also conducted many musicals for cwACT and Stevens Point Area Senior High. Mr. Van Tiem currently is chair of the music department at P. J. Jacobs Junior High in Stevens Point, Wisc. where
he directs the Concert Band, Chamber and Concert Orchestra. He numbers among his
mentors some of the foremost music educators/conductors in the US: E. Daniel
Long, Donald Schleicher and H. Robert Reynolds. He has served as
principal horn of the Central Wisconsin Symphony, Fox Valley Symphony and the
American Wind Symphony. He holds degrees in Music Education and horn
performance from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and the University of
Massachusetts (Amherst). He studied horn with Louis Stout, Lowell Greer,
and Laura Klock. He currently lives in Stevens Point with his wife Nicole and their six children.
A graduate of the University of
Wisconsin Oshkosh, Stephan Wucherer received his bachelor’s degree in Music
Performance in 2002. While at UW Oshkosh Stephan began teaching private
students at the urging of his cello professor and has been teaching ever since.
Stephan then attended Butler University in Indianapolis from 2002 to 2004 for
his Masters of Music but returned to Wisconsin afterward to pursue his public
teaching license. Stephan taught orchestra in the Oshkosh Area School District
for nine years. While there, he directed the strings classes in grades 6 through
8 at Webster Stanley and Merrill Middle School. Stephan is currently the 5th
and 6th grade orchestra director at Lineville Intermediate School in
the Howard-Suamico School District.
Stephan is an active cellist,
composer, arranger and conductor throughout the Fox Valley and Central
Wisconsin area. Currently he conducts the Waupaca Area Orchestra, a new
community orchestra entering its third season of concerts. Stephan has also
taught and coached in various music camps and chamber music workshops in the
Fox Valley and Door County.
