​Financial Planning Series

Insurance, financial planning, and financial services are some of the fastest growth industries in Central Wisconsin.
 
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point School of Business & Economics and Continuing Education are offering a series of workshops to help you prepare for a career in insurance, financial planning and financial services. These workshops will also serve as an excellent review for anyone prior to sitting for the Certified Financial Planner examination. This workshop series is appropriate for both the traditional college student with an interest in the insurance and financial services field, or the individual who is already in the workforce and wants the opportunity to develop additional knowledge and skills in the field.

 Who Should Attend?

 
All sessions meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 209 of the College of Professional Studies Building on the UW-Stevens Point campus.
 
The series will consist of the following six seminars (click on the topic below for more details of each session):
  1. Principles of Financial Planning - 9/28/2013
  2. Insurance Planning - 10/5/2013
  3. Investment Planning - 10/12/2013
  4. Income Tax Planning - 10/19/2013
  5. Retirement Planning - 10/26/2013
  6. Estate Planning - 11/2/2013

Pricing Structure:

Gold Package: Full series (six sessions) - $700

Silver Package: Choice of three sessions - $400

Basic Package: Any one session - $200

Fees include all course materials and breaks. Lunch will be on your own.

​Instructor Bio:

Dave Schalow has been at UW-Stevens Point since 2008. He grew up in Central Wisconsin and moved back here from Southern California. At UWSP Dave teaches marketing, sales, real estate, and entrepreneurship. He has worked in the insurance, mortgage, securities, and real estate industries. In addition to a Ph.D. in Finance, he has the following professional designations:

  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Certified Residential Specialist (CRS)
  • Graduate Real Estate Institute (GRI)

Dr. Schalow has authored a textbook and instructor's manual, California Real Estate Principles, published by Southwestern, and written numerous refereed articles in Corporate Finance, Accounting, Investments, Insurance, Financial Planning, and Real Estate. He is a former real estate and mortgage broker (Cal., Nev. and Wis.) and was licensed in real estate sales, life and health insurance, property and casualty insurance and securities sales.
