Welcome to the website for the Affiliate State Tournament!  The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday April 14, 2014 at UW-Stevens Point.  Families, teams, spectators, and appraisers are encouraged to use this site as a resource of information about the tournament. This page will provide information about dining, parking, maps and directions, visitor information, activities at the event, and to access the state schedule showing when teams compete. All affiliate state tournament scores will be posted when the event is complete.       
 
The state schedule shows the regional winners competing in the event and when they are scheduled to perform Challenges A, B, C, D, E or PO, and their Instant Challenge on April 13.  The schedule will not be ready until each regional tournament is completed.  Winners are then entered into the tournament schedule.  Winners will be able to access the tournament day schedule on this site the week of April 7, 2014.

2013 Tournament Day Expectations

UW-Stevens Point would like to keep family, spectators, and participants safe while on campus and we ask that you, as visitors to UW-Stevens point, protect university equipment, assets, and property while you are here.  Each tournament Challenge Master is given an area to supervise and manage during the day and is asked to follow these guidelines for protecting univeristy equipment and property.  Please bring a copy of this document with you to the event. 

Liability and Photo Release Form

All tournament participants must submit a signed form by April 5, 2013.  Fax forms to Samantha Pech at 715-346-3504 or email scanned forms to spech@uwsp.edu with "2013 DI Release Forms" in the subject line. 
 
If you did not submit a form by the April 5th deadline, please make sure this release form is sent in prior to the event.

Dining on Campus

Meals will not be provided to teams and the general public. Catering will be provided only to the appraisers and Destination Imagination committee members at the event.  The following dining options will be available on the day of the event:


Dreyfus University Center Venues

  • Spicy Meatball

Venues above will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Ala Carte snacks and beverages will also be available for purchase during these time frames.

Debot Dining Center
Attendees may purchase breakfast, lunch or dinner tickets at the Debot Dining Center on the day of the event.  Visit Debot Dining Center.  Meal tickets are sold at the Upper Debot at the following prices:

  • Breakfast: $5.25
  • Lunch: $6.95
  • Dinner: $8.95

UWSP student organizations may have kiosks at various locations on campus

Boy Scout Troop 298  (held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish on Reserve between High and Stanley Streets)

Please support the student organizations and Boy Scout Troop 298 as these are fundraising events for them.  Thank you!

NEW!  Visit The Berg Gym Creativity Expo! Visit the exhibit space to find organizations with a focus on opportunities to learn, have fun, and engage in creative problem-solving.  Exhibitors have been asked to share creative problem solving activities and all organizations have a focus is on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, communication, performance, and/or teamwork.  Visit the expo to explore other avenues for using the skills learned in Destination Imagination! 
This event has been until postponed for next year.  The next expo will take place in the Berg Gym on Saturday April 12, 2014.

Showing: Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions - (grades 5 - adult) 
This program challenges the audience to think critically about science. Were the Apollo visits to the moon a hoax? Have aliens landed on Earth? Can you tell your future from the stars? Prepare to debunk and tackle pseudoscience head-on in "Bad Astronomy", based on the popular book and website by the same name. Bad Astronomy offers a unique and fun approach to learning about the cosmos. Join the "Bad Astronomer" Phil Plait as he takes a critical look at popular myths and misconceptions to show visitors how science can be used to evaluate questionable claims.

Schmeeckle Reserve Special Event/Public Program
"Murals Unmasked"    Saturday, April 13, 1 to 2 p.m.
Schmeeckle and Dreyfus — maybe you have heard of them. But what about Ruth Gilfry or Albert G. Ellis? Join us for a stroll downtown to hear more about these iconic Stevens Point citizens and some important historical events, as well as how they came to be featured on the murals. Meet at the fountain in the square in downtown Stevens Point. Presented by Andrea Szcepanski. Dress for the weather!

Award Ceremony

The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. in the Quandt gym of the Health Enhancement Center (HEC) on Saturday, April 13, 2013.   See photos from the day's event, listen to music, relax and have fun!  Hear the UW-Stevens Point Chancellor's welcome at 5:30 p.m. and maybe even see Stevie Pointer!  
 

Certificate of Participation

A Certificate of Participation will be provided to team members at a later day in 2013.  The form will allow you to enter participants and team manager names. 
 

Winning the Destination Imagination Wisconsin Affiliate State Tournament

Winners of the state event will be moving on to Global Finals. A link to the global finals website will be posted here by April 13, 2013.
