Is your estate in order? Do you know who will inherit your woodlands? Which estate planning tools make the most sense for you and your family? These are some of the questions we hope to answer as a part of an Estate Planning workshop for woodland owners.

Estate Planning involves not only the disposition of property at death but the wise accumulation, use, and preservation of assets during life. The goal of this workshop is to help you find the best possible methods to meet your needs and wishes while minimizing costs due to mistakes caused by indecision or lack of good information to make those decisions.

Who Should Attend?

Woodland owners, family members, foresters, timber professionals and anyone else who is interested in learning about the tools and professionals who can help you get your estate in order and prepare for an orderly transition of assets from one generation to the next.

What Will You Learn?

Lawyers, estate planning professionals, financial planning professionals, a certified public accountant and Extension Specialists will discuss estate planning tools and steps you can take to get your estate "in order." Topics will include:

  • What is estate planning?
  • Income tax consequences of lifetime gifts v. transfers at death
  • Planning an estate that involves woodlands as an asset
  • Property ownership (property distribution at death)
  • Estate planning tools
  • What's next in planning your estate?
  • Woodland owner panel discussion
