What's New
The Division of Communication strives to provide special opportunities for our students to meet, work with, and learn from communication experts working in a variety of fields:
TRIVIA
The world’s largest trivia contest returns to 90FM WWSP, the student radio station at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, on April 11-13, 2008. The theme for this year’s contest is “The Trivia Invasion.”
90FM’s trivia contest annually draws about 500 teams and some 12,000 players to the community. Proceeds from the contest allow 90FM to maintain quality programming and serve as an important educational resource for those interested in broadcasting.
Trivia is much more than a contest. It has become an important community tradition that provides a weekend of friendship and enjoyment for all who dare to play.
AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER COMING TO UWSP
Martha Conboy, an award-winning filmmaker and executive producer, will be making a public presentation at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 21 in the Dreyfus University Center Theatre. The title of her presentation is “Indiana Jane? Her public presentation is free and open to the public.

She is also providing editorial supervision on behalf of National Geographic Television International, the distribution arm of National Geographic Television.
Conboy’s films have won several Emmys, a DuPont Columbia Journalism Award and an Academy Award Nomination for Best Documentary Short Subject. In addition to her work for National Geographic, Conboy has supervised hundreds of hours of programming for The Learning Channel.

COMMUNICATION STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
Clara Mallett-Newell of Kosciusko, Mississippi, recently spoke to students in our Communication and Social Change class (Communication 373) about her perception of how the Civil Rights Movement helped bring about a positive change in individual rights and racial relations.
Ms. Mallett-Newell is the grandmother of Justin Mallett, who earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in communication at UWSP. Justin now works for the UWSP Admissions Office.
Campus Clean-up Campaign
Chancellor Linda Bunnell and students from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) are continuing their campaign to encourage the UWSP community to keep the campus clean, beautiful and litter free. Public relations students designed the campaign to increase the sense of responsibility and pride among UWSP students, faculty and staff about their role in maintaining a clean and attractive campus. Students hope the campaign will help to reduce the amount of trash and recyclable items that are being discarded improperly on campus grounds.
The multifaceted promotional campaign uses the slogan “Don’t Be a Dirty Dawg! Keep Your Campus Clean” and features Stevie Pointer. The slogan appears on decals placed on trash receptacles throughout the campus and on buttons, magnets and coffee sleeves distributed at UWSP.
