Student Organizations
You may obtain practical experience through involvement in one or more of these student organizations:
- UW-Stevens Point’s chapter of the Association for Women in Communications champions the advancement of women across all communication disciplines by recognizing excellence and positioning its members for leadership roles in the communication field. Students benefit from guest speakers, field trips and other networking activities.
- Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association. UW-Stevens Point’s Nu Omicron Chapter is one of over 400 chapters at colleges and universities worldwide. Membership is open to qualified juniors and seniors with at least a 3.25 GPA in their communication courses and a 3.0 GPA overall.
- The Pointer, UW-Stevens Point’s weekly newspaper, is written and edited by students. It is published every Thursday during the academic year. The Pointer offers great opportunities for students to report, edit, and manage an important publication.
UW-Stevens Point’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) provides students the opportunity to learn more about the public relations field through campaign activities, guest speakers, field trips and professional conferences. With one of the largest PRSSA chapters in Wisconsin, UW-Stevens Point students can take advantage of a wide variety of professional development opportunities.- UW-Stevens Point hosts a student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Through guest speakers and networking events, SHRM helps students to explore the human resource profession.
Student Television (STV) allows UW-Stevens Point students to produce, direct and perform in live and recorded programs for telecast on Cable Channel 10 in the Stevens Point area. STV produces a wide variety of news, sports and entertainment programming.- WWSP-90FM is UW-Stevens Point’s radio station. At 11,500 watts, 90FM is the most powerful student-run radio station in the Midwest. Its alternative programming can be heard 365 days a year at 89.9 on the FM dial by listeners throughout central Wisconsin. 90FM also hosts the “world’s largest trivia contest” every spring bringing contestants from throughout the country to Stevens Point for the popular 54-hour event.
