Student Organizations
You may obtain practical experience through involvement in a wide variety of student organizations, including those targeted at the arts and communication. The following organizations are directly associated with the Division of Communication:
The
Pointer, UW-Stevens Point’s weekly newspaper, is written and edited by
students. It is published every Thursday during the academic year. The Pointer
offers great opportunities for students to report, edit, and manage an important
publication.
UW-Stevens Point’s
chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of
America (PRSSA) provides students the opportunity to learn more about the
public relations field through campaign activities, guest speakers, field trips
and professional conferences. With one of the largest PRSSA chapters in
Wisconsin, UW-Stevens Point students can take advantage of a wide variety of
professional development opportunities.
Student Television (SPTV) allows UW-Stevens Point
students to produce, direct and perform in live and recorded programs for
telecast on Cable Channel 98 in the Stevens Point area. SPTV produces a wide
variety of news, sports and entertainment programming.
WWSP-90FM is UW-Stevens Point’s radio station.
At 30,000 watts, 90FM is the most powerful student-run radio station in the
Midwest. Its alternative programming can be heard 365 days a year at 89.9 on the
FM dial by listeners throughout central Wisconsin. 90FM also hosts the “world’s
largest trivia contest” every spring bringing contestants from throughout the
country to Stevens Point for the popular 54-hour
event.
