Welcome to the American Suzuki Institute (ASI) where every corner of the Suzuki triangle, student, parent and teacher, is nurtured! Modeled after Dr. Suzuki's summer school in Japan, the ASI is the oldest and one of the largest institutes held in the U.S. each year. In fact, in 2010 we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary! ASI is a five- day intensive experience in the Suzuki Approach where one can hone their instrumental, parenting and teaching skills, build confidence and have fun while doing it.

For students we offer lessons in violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, harp and guitar. Students are scheduled for a daily master class, a technique/musicianship class and a group repertoire class. Orchestra and specific ensembles are offered for appropriate ages as well. Advanced students can participate in a two-week chamber music camp. Parents are afforded opportunities to see nationally acclaimed Suzuki faculty work with their child, choose from approximately 24 lectures addressing aspects of being a Suzuki parent and exchange ideas with other parents. Teachers can begin or further their Suzuki training in the many levels of teacher training classes offered each year. They also have the opportunity to observe multiple teaching styles, and students with a wide range of abilities, ages and instruments. For all participants there are nightly concerts, recitals and even a talent show. Last, but certainly not least, there are the friendships among the participants that give the whole event a family-reunion feeling.

In addition to our state-of-the-art Noel Fine Arts Center, our University of Wisconsin Stevens Point campus offers many amenities that are kid-friendly, such as a large swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tracks, biking and hiking trails, a university- operated food service committed to healthy eating and locally-grown food and many other eating options within walking distance. Families can choose dormitory housing or local hotels.

But the best part about being at ASI is that for one week, in this wholesome musical environment, it seems that the whole world is learning to play an instrument and having fun doing it. This is a camp, not for the extraordinarily motivated or the particularly precocious student. Quite the contrary; it is THE place to come to become exceptionally motivated or precocious. Come and experience it yourself and help us celebrate our 40th birthday!
