MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC CAMPS - HIGH SCHOOL STUDIO ART CAMP

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC CAMPS

1. IMPORTANT: UPON ARRIVAL, EVERY CAMPER MUST FIRST REPORT TO THE HEALTH SERVICES STAFF AT HANSEN HALL TO COMPLETE A MEDICAL UPDATE FORM, DISCUSS ANY MEDICATIONS BROUGHT TO CAMP, AND VERIFY COMPLETION OF THE HEALTH HISTORY/CONSENT FORM. CAMPERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO STAY UNLESS THEY HAVE THIS DOCUMENTATION ON FILE! If you have not yet submitted your health history/consent form, please present it to the Health Services Staff during this time. After meeting with the Health Services Staff, all females should complete check-in with Ms. Hess in the lobby of Hansen Hall. All male campers, after the medical check-in is completed, will proceed to Steiner Hall to complete check-in with Mr. Robisch.

2. DORM CHECK-IN: Room assignments and further instructions will be given when you arrive at the dorm. After picking up your packet, locate your room. Settle in, leave your belongings in your room and KEEP IT LOCKED. The camp is not responsible for lost/stolen property. Do not lose your key/card; it must be returned upon checkout Saturday. Failure to do so will result in a $10 fine. If you are living at home or commuting please report to 307 Noel Fine Arts Center to receive your information packet.

3. AUDITIONS: Tryouts and chair placements for the large and small Ensembles will be held in Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday. Audition room locations are listed on the Audition Schedule in your packet that you receive on Sunday. All students will need to audition, including those registered in the Jazz Emphasis and String Specialist programs. Be prepared to play/sing scales, to sight-read, or to play/sing a short piece. If you have prepared music with you, please bring it to the audition.

4. ALL CAMPERS: (including commuters) will meet at 7:00PM on Sunday in Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center. This will be a general orientation and instruction session; your questions regarding classes and ensembles will be answered at this meeting. BRING YOUR PACKET AND A PENCIL.

5. CONCERTS: Saturday concerts will be continuous concerts and will be held in Michelsen Hall. As soon as you know the ensembles to which you are assigned, notify your parents/guardians so they can make arrangements to be at the music camp during the times you will be performing. This is your responsibility.

6. GROUP/PRIVATE LESSONS: All students taking group lessons and private lessons should bring study materials such as solos, etudes, method books, manuscript paper, etc. with them. Your name and address should be on all your music.

7. JAZZ EMPHASIS PROGRAM: Those enrolled in this program will take performance classes in improvisation. Special emphasis will be placed on participation in small jazz combos. All Jazz Emphasis campers will be placed in a combo. All combos will perform in concert on Saturday morning.

8. STRING SPECIALIST PROGRAM: There will be daily master classes involving all the string students, and several individual private lessons during the week. The high string students will be able to participate in the comprehensive class schedule which includes classes in music history, music theory, conducting and improvisation

9. DRESS: Casual summer clothing is appropriate for daily wear. There will
be dress-up occasions (such as a dance on Friday evening). For the concerts on Saturday, please wear white shirts/blouses and dark slacks/skirts (solid black, navy or dark brown).

10. MEALS: All music camp students will be eating at the DeBot Center. The evening meal on Sunday will be served from 4:30-5:30. Keep track of your meal ticket card. If you lose it, a replacement can be obtained for an additional fee.

11. RECREATION: There will be supervised recreational activities. FOR SECURITY REASONS, SWIMMERS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN LOCK WHILE USING THE UNIVERSITY POOL AREA. Tennis and volleyball courts are available; bring your own equipment (e.g. tennis racket/balls, balls, gloves/bats, etc.)

12. STUDENT RECITALS: A student recital will be held during the Music Camp. You must furnish your own solo. An accompanist will be provided.

13. AUTOMOBILES: Driving/riding in cars is not permitted during camp.

14. VISITATION: Parents are welcome to visit during camp; we would appreciate you notifying us of your presence on campus.

15. INSTRUMENT RENTAL: All campers should have their own instrument or borrow one from their local school. However, some large instruments are available for rent at a fee of $10.00 per week. The University will furnish all percussion equipment. All percussionists should provide their own drumsticks and mallets; students may provide their own drum set.

16. CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES: Check-out will be on Saturday morning. Details will be given to you during the week by your counselor.

17. COUNSELORS: Counselors are provided by Point Music Camp; they are usually music majors here at UW-Stevens Point. They have a thorough knowledge of our campus and they reside in the dorms with the campers.

18. MEDICAL SERVICES: The cost of emergency or routine health care will be the responsibility of the individual camper through cash payment or personal health insurance. Music Camp Insurance (as specified on the information sheet with your application) is accident insurance only. Any medical expense incurred above the amount covered by insurance is the responsibility of the individual contracting for health service.

19. OFF-CAMPUS POLICY: Campers are permitted off-campus, but limited to the area one block north of the dorms (K-Mart), and the area one block west of the dorms (University Store, Hardee’s, Taco Bell, etc.) Campers must notify their counselor if
leaving campus.

20. POINT MUSIC CAMP reserves the right to send home without refund any camper who fails to behave in an appropriate manner.

22. IMPORTANT MESSAGES: During the Point Music Camp, important messages can be left with the Music Camp office Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM. The office staff will see that your message is relayed. The Point Music Camp office telephone is (715) 346.3838. For emergencies after 4PM, call (715) 346.3456 (Campus Security Office).

23. What to bring:

HIGH SCHOOL STUDIO ART CAMP

1. Important: Check-in for the Studio Art Camp is Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Please make every effort to arrive during this period. Upon arrival, all campers should complete check-in with Camp Director, Mark Brueggeman, in the courtyard of the Noel Fine Arts Center. Every camper must meet with Health Services (in dorms) to complete a medical update form, discuss any medications brought to camp and verify completion of the health history/consent form. Campers will not be permitted to stay unless they have this documentation on file. If you have not yet submitted your health history/consent form, please present it to the Health Services staff during this time.

All Campers: will meet at 6:30 pm on Sunday in the courtyard of the Noel Fine Arts Center. This will be a general orientation and instruction session introducing you to your faculty and touring the facilities. Questions regarding classes and other activities will be answered at this meeting. Bring your packet and a pencil.

3. Dress: Casual summer clothing is appropriate for daily wear. Leather shoes and long pants (jeans) and long sleeved shirts will be required for Glass and Sculpture studio days. Other protective equipment will be provided. There will be dress-up occasions (such as a dance on Friday evening and Gallery reception on Saturday.)


4. Meals: All Studio Camp students will be eating at the DeBot Center, which is near the dorms. The evening meal on Sunday will be served from 4:30-5:30pm. Keep track of your meal ticket card. If you lose it, a replacement can be obtained for an additional fee.
