Dr. Patrick Miles is Professor of Horn and Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point   He is also Music Director for the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra  www.cwso.org .  As a hornist Patrick has performed with a number of orchestras which include the Green Bay Symphony, La Crosse Symphony, Fox Valley Symphony, Central Wisconsin Symphony, Pamiro Opera Company, Des Moines Symphony, Eugene Symphony, Eugene Opera Company, Oregon Coast Music Festival, Flagstaff Festival of the Arts Symphony, Arizona Opera Company, Quad-Cities Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Cedar Falls-Waterloo Symphony and the Joffrey Ballet. Dr. Miles' European credits include appearances with several orchestras in London in the fall of 1996 including the Southgate Symphony Orchestra, the London Medical Orchestra and the Maggini Chamber Orchestra and that of Principal Horn of the Rome Festival Orchestra in 1992. He has also appeared in concert in Japan and the Republic of China. Prior to coming to UWSP Patrick taught at Iowa State University, Oregon State University, and Grinnell College.  Patrick is currently the Wisconsin Area Representative for the International Horn Society and has appeared as a contributing artist at numerous IHS events including the 33rd IHS Symposium in Kalamazoo, MI, the 23rd International Horn Society Symposium held at the University of North Texas, the 2002 Midwest Regional Workshop, the 1994 Great Lakes Horn and at the 1993 Southwest Horn Symposium.  Dr. Miles received his Bachelor of Music degree from Northern Arizona University and his graduate degrees from the University of Iowa where he studied with Paul Anderson.  In addition to having several articles published, he is a co-author of Teaching Brass: A Resource Manual, a textbook published by McGraw-Hill.  In addition to guest conducting appearances with the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra, Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, Wausau Symphony Orchestra, Corvallis Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Dodge Symphony Orchestra, Patrick spent ten years as Music Director and Conductor for both the Green Bay Civic Symphony and the Wausau Symphony.   Patrick’s principal conducting teacher was James Dixon.  Patrick has studied conducting in Rome and, while in London during the fall of 1996, attended master classes with Riccardo Chailly, Christopher Hogwood, and Sir Colin Davis and was Guest Lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music.  Patrick is a dedicated teacher and has presented at several regional conferences in the US including those of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association, Minnesota Music Educators Association, Iowa Bandmasters Association and the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago, IL.  He has served as a clinician for students from over 200 high schools.  During the summers Patrick has led various Dixieland groups at baseball stadiums that have been the home bands for the Iowa Cubs, Eugene Emeralds, Tucson Toros, Cleveland Indians and Cedar Rapids Reds.  Patrick is a Yamaha Clinician.
