Sondy Pope-Roberts
Representative, 79th District
Wisconsin State Assembly
Sondy was elected to the State Assembly in 2002 to
represent the 79th district, which covers the western parts
of Madison and Middleton, Blue Mounds, Cross Plains,
Fitchburg, Mount Horeb, Springdale, Vermont, and Verona.
Born in Madison, she graduated from River Valley High
School and attended Madison Area Technical College and
Edgewood College.
Sondy was attracted to the legislature due to educational
issues and was recruited by fellow Democrats. She served her
school district as an education advocate and member of the
school board legislative committee. She believes that it is
vital that Wisconsin supports an educational system which
will produce productive, responsible citizens.
Current Chair of the Assembly Committee on Education,
Sondy is also a sitting member on the Committee on Children
and Families, the Committee on Corrections and the Courts,
the Committee on Homeland Security and State Affairs, and
the Committee on Consumer Protection. Her primary focus is
on education issues, domestic and family issues and
corrections.
A widow with one daughter in college, Sondy enjoys
collecting antiques, kayaking, biking, and spending time
with her family.
