Purpose

Proposals must be for work to develop, enhance or modify an educational plan to provide details regarding how the use of the school forest and the district's K-12 environmental education plan are/will be integrated into the overall district curriculum.

Districts awarded funds for educational plan proposals will be required to use WEEB's approved school forest educational plan template as the foundation for creating the plan.

Education plan grants may not contain any costs associated with implementing the plan.

Eligibility

These funds will only be awarded to public school districts with officially registered school forests. To be eligible for these funds, a district MUST have an officially registered school forest site by the grant application deadline (February 13, 2010).

A listing of officially registered forests may be viewed on the LEAF website. For information on the status of school forests not on the list, or to register a school forest, contact:

Gretchen Marshall, School Forest Coordinator
Phone (715) 346-2633
Email: gmarshal@uwsp.edu

Previous grant recipients must have submitted all reports to be awarded funds from the 2010-2011 grant cycle. Contact the WEEB office if uncertain whether this criterion has been met.

Amount Available

The Forestry Account of the Conservation Fund is expected to provide $190,000 for the 2010-2011 grant cycle. This $190,000 will also be used to make awards in the school forest category. Maximum award per education plan proposal is $5,000.

To avoid disqualification and receive full consideration, make sure the minimum criteria for funding summarized in the Quality Assurance Checklist are met. Absence of any starred and bolded item will cause the proposal to be disqualified.

Grant writers may also wish to have someone who is unfamiliar with the proposal use the technical review form (jump to technical review form in PDF format) and merit review form (jump to merit form in PDF format) to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal. Note these review forms are from a prior year, and do not correspond directly with this year's requirements. Project directors are responsible for meeting the 2010-2011 requirements for funding.
