Overview

Provides the WEEB with advice and recommendations for its overall strategy for reaching goals and priorities that may be addressed through the legislative process. In advising the WEEB, the committee seeks input from all parties involved with environmental education.

Charge

The Legislative Committee was formed at the Board's July 2008 meeting. It's name was changed to the Legislative Relations Committee at the April 2009 meeting. It is charged with

  • Advising the WEEB on strategies for reaching goals and priorities that may be undertaken through the legislative process. The committee seeks input from all parties involved with environmental education.
  • Communicating with other WEEB committees to ascertain needs and to provide feedback that may direct their future action(s).
  • Reporting to the WEEB at its quarterly meetings on the status of undertaken initiatives.

Membership

The Legislative Relations Committee will consist of five to seven members appointed by the WEEB chairperson. The committee chairperson must be a currently serving WEEB member and will, in consultation with committee and WEEB members, be identified by the WEEB chairperson. Individuals will serve indefinite appointments, with the membership typically reviewed annually during the WEEB’s July meeting.

Meeting Location and Times

Will be at the discretion of the committee.

  • The Board expects the committee will make extensive use of email, phone-conference calls and other technologies that reduce the need for face-to-face meetings.
  • The Board expects the committee will convene/communicate frequently enough to be able to report progress on initiatives at each of the WEEB quarterly meetings (January, April, July, October).
    • The committee will be given substantial time on the WEEB’s October meeting agenda in order to set the direction for Board work during the upcoming legislative session.

Additional Directives

The Legislative Relations Committee may at its discretion:

  • add or remove additional committee members beyond those originally appointed by the WEEB. The Legislative Relations Committee may not remove a member who was appointed directly by the Board.
  • create and dissolve sub-committees or task forces to carry out initiatives. Membership of sub-committees and task forces will be approved by the membership of the Legislative Relations Committee and need not be approved by the WEEB.
