2009 Conference Overview
Our Changing Forests: Challenges
and Opportunities for Wisconsin's Students
Conference Overview
This conference will showcase what students throughout the state are doing to sustain Wisconsin’s forests. Students will have the opportunity to learn about issues affecting Wisconsin’s forests, opportunities to address these challenges, and forest-related careers. They will develop initial personal, class, and community action plans to help sustain Wisconsin’s forests.
The Need for Forestry Education Our forests face great challenges including invasive species, climate change, and land-use changes. As our population grows and the demands on our forests increase, Wisconsin's citizens will need to play an active role in sustaining our forests as ecosystems and human systems. Students as future decision-makers and current community members, need to understand the challenges facing our forests and need to be prepared to take an active role in sustaining their ecological, social and economic values.
