2008 Conference Participant Information

General Information

Students and teachers, grades 9-12, participated in the 17th annual High School Conference on the Environment. The Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education at UW-Stevens Point is proud to host this leadership skill-building opportunity yearly.

Each school could send up to eight students to the conference. Participants served as "ambassadors" from their school and were expected to bring a poster exhibit to share. Teachers were encouraged to recruit students who have an active interest in the environment and who show leadership potential. Individual students or non school-based groups were also encouraged to participate.

All participating groups were expected to meet the Conference Preparation Requirements which included completing a pre-assignment and creating a poster to bring to the event.

The cost of the conference, which included lunch, was $15 per person if postmarked on or before October 1, 2008 and $20 per person if postmarked after October 1, 2008. This year's event filled by the early registration deadline and 12 groups had to be turned away.

To help offset the cost of transportation and substitute fees related to participation in the conference, stipends (up to $300 total) were offered to schools and student groups. We thank our generous sponsors for providing these funds: Wisconsin Environmental Education Board, Midwest Renewable Energy Association, Focus on Energy, We Energies, Alliant Energy, Excel Energy.
