The 2004 Governor's High School Conference on the Environment theme was Sustaining Wisconsin's Forests: Exploring and Understanding Our Role. Conference sessions fell into three strands: Understanding Forests, The Importance of Forests, and Sustaining Forests.

Each high school in Wisconsin was invited to send up to eight students to the conference. These students served as "ambassadors" and were required to bring a poster presentation to share.
