Ellen Kort, Wisconsin's Poet Laureate
Ellen Kort was named Wisconsin's first Poet Laureate by then-Governor Tommy Thompson in 2000. For decades she has been committed to poetry in Wisconsin, teaching, writing, giving public readings and instructing in workshops and retreats. At this year's Governor's High School Conference on the Environment she will debut a new poem in honor of the Year of Water.

Les Fils du Voyageur
Through songs slides and character portrayal, the Sons of the Voyageur bring to life the era of the fur trade, and paint a picture of the lifestyle and work style of the people engaged in it. From the 1600’s to the 1840’s thousands of these men paddled canoes full of trade goods and furs across the North American Continent, including much of Wisconsin, singing as they worked. Constantly tied to the water in a time when rivers and lakes were the highways and trade routes of the world, their songs reflect the joys, sorrows, work, and play of their everyday lives, and form the basis of this exciting historical multi-media overview.
