A visit to the Fox Ridge Game Farm in Oconto Falls will bring your students closer to an active geothermal heating and cooling system. The farm has three systems: two hydronic and one forced air. You won't be able to see the technology since it's underground, but Mike or Bill can introduce you to this renewable energy resource. Nature Net Do you want to take your class to a nature center? Find one close to you at Nature Net where they have put together a list of nature centers in your are!

Northern Lights Master Gardeners Association has designed and installed a wind-turbine powered water pumping system at the Harmony Arboretum. The garden is always open to the public. On Tuesday evenings during the growing season there are volunteers on site to answer questions. Directions: 7 miles west of the city of Marinette on HWY 64, then South 1/2 mile on County E. Suring Community Dairy, located in Suring, WI, collects manure from 800 cows in an anaerobic digester which generates methane to produce electricity and heat. Although you can't "see" the methane being produced, this technology is very interesting to learn about. To schedule a trip to Suring Dairy, contact Ray Leicht at 920.842.5502.

Trees for Tomorrow, field studies and field activities are Trees For Tomorrow's specialty. TFT's field workshops are taught by a full time staff of 10 natural science professionals including foresters, biologists, resource management specialists and naturalists.

We Energies operates 13 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of approximately 89 megawatts. For more information on tours at these facilities, contact We Energies or visit their Web site.

Wisconsin Public Service Corporation gives tours of hydroelectric plants on the Wisconsin, Tomahawk, Peshtigo and Menominee rivers, of its coal plant near Wausau, and of its nuclear plant at Kewaunee for grades 9-12. Don Keck from the Focus on Energy Schools & Government Program Facilities Management Services provides programs to school districts to reduce energy costs, become energy efficient, and provide a safe and healthful environment for staff and students. Lumber Dealers Supply has specialists on staff who are involved in the DuPont Tyvek Specialist program which is made up of 170 men and women in the U.S. and Canada who are trained in all facets of residential and commercial construction. The classes they attend have been developed by a former college professor from Purdue to help them train building contractors, architects, teachers, students, engineers and building inspectors about building science and building practices. Solarwise for Schools is a solar energy and education program offered to high schools served by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. The goal of this program is to install solar-electric systems on high schools and educate students about solar power.

Wisconsin Public Service Corporation has many employees and retirees involved in their Speakers Bureau who volunteer their time and expertise to make presentations on a wide range of topics pertinent to the utility industry. These presentations are about 20 minutes in length.
