  2009 Bookmark Contest

2009 Bookmark Contest

View and order 2008/2009 Energy Superhero Bookmarks here!

In 2002, KEEP took over the annual Energy Bookmark from the Division of Energy, Department of Administration. The contest is open to 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students in Wisconsin. The theme for each year is announced in October and entries are due in December. Over 100 entries are received each year! Winners are selected in January and receive a $50 savings bond that is presented at an awards ceremony in April.

2010 Contest Theme: Saving Energy: My School First! This year’s energy theme focuses on energy use in school buildings. This offers students a great opportunity to think about how they affect the energy usage in the school. Students will look around their schools for way energy could be saved for future use.

See the Download section below for more information on the theme and entry forms.

Eligibility: 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students of Wisconsin public and non-public schools. Each school may submit nine bookmarks total: three per eligible grade (5, 6, and 7).

Since only three bookmarks are allowed per eligible grade level per school, you may want to have a school contest to select the school's entries. You can use this contest as a springboard to initiate other energy projects in your classroom and school.

Deadline: Monday, December 14, 2009

Download: Application Booklet, Release Form, Entry Form

Awards: Each entry to the statewide contest receives a certificate of recognition. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in Madison on April 23, 2010 and received a $50 savings bond. Their bookmarks will be reproduced and distributed throughout Wisconsin at no cost to participating schools.

Energy Awards Ceremony

Every year, KEEP holds an Energy Awards Ceremony to recognize students and teachers who excel in energy education. Students are involved in many energy-related activities such as KEEP's Bright Idea Fundraiser, building energy efficient homes, or winning the annual bookmark contest.

Teachers are recognized for receiving energy education funding for their classrooms or winning the Energy Educator of the Year award.

The seventh annual Energy Awards Ceremony will be April 22, 2009 in Stevens Point. To view photos from the Awards Ceremony, please continue down this page.

Student Builders of the Year

This spring, the WI K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) sponsored the fourth annual Student Builder of the Year Award to acknowledge the accomplishments of student builders across Wisconsin who have experience with energy efficient building techniques. Three student builders were selected by a panel of judges to receive this year's Student Builder of the Year Award. Students, their parents, and teachers received exclusive invitations to the prestigious Energy Awards Ceremony scheduled for April 22 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At the ceremony, student builders were recognized with a printed certificate and a $50 savings bond from KEEP.
