Are you a technology education teacher looking for further opportunities for professional development? Does one of these opportunities fit your professional development needs? KEEP will provide scholarships for two technology education instructors to attend one of these superior learning events. A small panel of "judges" will review the Reservation Form, and two teachers from eligible schools* who have not attended events funded by KEEP in the past, will be selected. The scholarships include full registration, classroom substitute reimbursement for one day, and up to $100 in mileage costs.
*Please note: Eligible schools are those that purchase their electricity from a participating electric utility company within the Focus on Energy territory. To check your school's eligibility, go to www.focusonenergy.com and click on the eligibility tool at the top of the page or contact Sara Windjue at 715.346.4163 or swindjue@uwsp.edu.
Cold Climate
Houses
This 8 hour workshop will
review the ‘field tested and proven’ building techniques used by cold
climate builders in certifying over 5,000 Wisconsin ENERGY STAR® Homes. We
will start by reviewing just what the issues are when building high
performance homes in a cold climate. We will follow with a look at proven
products and techniques used successfully here in our climate. All major
areas of the building shell will be covered, from the footings to the attic.
(brief mechanical overview) We’re not just going to talk about methods,
using hundreds of ‘crystal clear’ job site photos, we’re going to show you!
Builders like pictures and we’ve got’em. No other presentation has included
this many ‘show me how’ pictures. We will also run a brief demonstration of
the software used to evaluate individual products as used in the Wisconsin
ENERGY STAR Homes Program.

A solar hot water system connects to a home's existing gas or electric water heating system, providing a supplemental source of heat for all hot water needs including showers, sinks, and clothes and dish washers. Solar water heating systems are a proven technology that work well even in cold climates. Solar hot water systems can provide 40-70 percent of a homes annual hot water needs. Topics will include: system components, equipment selection, mounting systems, system options, siting and sizing.
