Avoiding Energy Waste
Students analyze the energy used to make a product and identify alternatives (reduce, reuse, recycle) to throwing away the product and its energy.

Calculating Calories
Students investigate how much energy is stored in foods by burning a peanut and calculating how many calories of heat are released.

Community Energy Use
Students survey local residents and businesses to learn how their community uses energy.

Corn in Your Car
Through mapping and research, students measure the availability of ethanol-blended fuels in their community and the environmental benefits of using these fuels.

Energy Use Analysis
Students complete a survey to determine how various appliances in their home use electricity.

Measuring Wind Speed
Students use their senses and observational skills to assess wind speed.

Reading Utility Bills
Students observe and interpret a customers energy consumption patterns over the course of a year by reading utility bills.

Reading Utility Meters
Students observe and interpret daily and weekly patterns of energy consumption by reading utility meters.

Solar Cooking
Students build and use a simple solar oven.

Turning Turbines
Students use a pinwheel to investigate the energy in wind and water.

Windy Careers
Students sequence career titles of those responsible for siting, installing, and maintaining a wind farm.
