Fuels for Schools: Exploring Wood as an Energy
Source for Your School
April 9 & 10 at Crandon High School, Crandon, WI
The KEEP energy education program and LEAF forestry education program have teamed up. This fact-filled, idea-filled graduate course will answer such burning questions as What is woody biomass? What are the positive and negative effects of using woody biomass as an energy source? and How do we develop and manage woody biomass as an energy source? The course will include background information, activities you can use in your classroom, and additional resources to help you use woody biomass as a relevant learning opportunity for your students. The course is open to 7-12 grade teachers. Limited Scholarships Available! For more information visit the LEAF Professional Development Web Page.
| The Annual Energy Fair |
The 21st Annual Energy Fair will be June 18-20, 2010.
KEEP usually offers two graduate courses at the Energy Fair. One is for technology & engineering teachers and the other is for all other K-12 teachers. Each course is worth one graduate credit. Click here for information about the Energy Fair.
To learn more about the Energy Fair in general, visit the Midwest Renewable Energy Association's Web site at www.the-mrea.org and click on Energy Fair.
| NRES 730 - Energy Education in the Classroom |
Energize your classroom! Through hands-on activities and class discussions learn how you can enhance students' understanding of what energy is, where it comes from, and how it affects their lives. This course is designed for teachers who want to experience it today and teach it tomorrow. Applicable to teachers of Science/Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts, Technology Education, Family Living and Consumer Education (FCE), or to anyone who wants to promote energy as part of their environmental education curriculum.
Focus on Energy and select Wisconsin utilities provide $375 scholarships, and participants pay a co-pay. The In-service includes one graduate credit from UWSP (and all materials) to participants who are practicing K-12 teachers from Wisconsin schools in their territories.
Participants are responsible for paying the co-pay, attending the course, peer teaching from the KEEP Activity Guide during the course, and completing a class assignment to be turned in by an arranged date after the course. The assignment is designed to have teachers create a product that will support their efforts to integrate energy concepts into their classroom lessons.
