Educational Opportunities Abound at the 19th Annual Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair
The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is putting new energy into the teacher/educator programs offered at the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair. This year educators will have three ways to participate in the Energy Fair:
1.
Attend the Fair.
The Energy Fair is the world's largest renewable energy education
event. This year's fair
will feature over 100 workshops on solar, wind, water, biomass, and
other sustainable living and environmental topics. Workshops are geared for all knowledge levels, so even if you are
new to renewable energy you will feel right at home. There are also workshops and activities for children making
this a great summer activity for the whole family.
In addition to the workshops, the Energy Fair features more than 150 exhibit booths, working renewable energy displays, great food vendors, and live entertainment.
The 2008 Energy Fair will be held at the ReNew the Earth Institute in Custer, WI on June 20-22, 2008. Adult admission is $10 per day, or $25 for the three day weekend.
2. Attend Educator Workshops in the Educator Tent.
Each year at the Fair there are special workshops especially for teachers and educators. Participants in these workshops learn about: energy education curriculum, lessons and activities; grants and funding sources; equipment that is available to supplement energy education lessons; and off-site programs and field trips available to schools. These workshops also provide a great opportunity to network with other educators who are interested in energy education.
3. Two Ways to Earn Graduate Credit from UWSP (courses are limited; sign up early).
-
In the first course, NR 610: Exploring Renewable Energy, individuals attend the Fair and apply what they have learned to their classroom situation. Register now!
-
The second course, NR 731 (section 88) - Exploring Energy Technologies, is limited to tech. ed. instructors and will focus on introducing educators to the technologies of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Through informative sessions with energy experts and a remarkable tour of local renewable homes, teachers will gain vital background knowledge to integrate energy concepts into classroom activities. Networking opportunities connect participants to leaders in the field. Register now!
