Award Program Overview

The objective of the Energy Educator of the Year Awards is to recognize exemplary formal and non-formal energy educators.

Program Rationale

Each day, Wisconsin citizens face critical decisions concerning economic, environmental, and sociopolitical issues that affect their lives. Many of these issues involve energy and energy education can help learners gain the knowledge and skills needed to analyze and resolve these issues while making wise energy decisions. Challenges and barriers such as time, limited resources, and other demands prevent the topic of energy from being included in curriculum and outreach programs. This program seeks to recognize individuals who, despite these challenges—or perhaps because of them—have made energy education a priority in their teaching and outreach initiatives. These individuals are making a difference; they are improving energy literacy in Wisconsin.

Award Categories

The Formal Energy Educator of the Year Award recognizes a Wisconsin K-12 classroom teacher, public or private, for their efforts and dedication to energy education. Teachers of all subjects are eligible.

The Non-Formal Energy Educator of the Year Award recognizes a Wisconsin resident who works with the community, outside of a school setting, to promote energy education in one form or another. Professional and volunteer educators who teach in non-school settings are eligible.

Both Formal and Non-Formal Energy Educator of the Year Award recipients will be awarded $1,000 and additional resources (worth up to $250) to be used to further their energy education efforts.
