Course Information

Welcome to NRES 735: Renewable Energy Education, a one-credit undergraduate/graduate level web-based course (Internet delivery) offered through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and developed by the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP)

The Web site component of this course is always open to the general public; the course content is geared primarily for K-12 educators. At certain times of the year, there is university credit available for this course, see Schedule Information or contact the KEEP office. See Registration Information to find out how to register. Enrolled students also participate in interactive online discussions and complete assignments. On-campus students need instructor permission to enroll in this course.

The course addresses what renewable energy is including solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass, how renewable energy is used worldwide, nationwide, and locally in Wisconsin, the benefits and barriers of using renewable energy, as well as how to incorporate renewable energy into your life.

Course activities will include exploration of renewable energy readings and pertinent Web sites, and online discussions.

Course Goal: Participants will gain a fundamental knowledge about renewable energy, how to incorporate renewable energy into their daily operations at work and at home, the benefits and barriers of using renewable energy, and will gain insight into the renewable world by discussing case studies and talking directly to course guests who have experience with renewables.

Location: Online 

Meeting times: Primarily asynchronous (work at your own convenience) over a four week period though students are required to complete unit readings and assignments each week by posted deadlines.

Grading: Grades will be based on quality participation in discussions, completion of assignments, and the quality and thoroughness of your work. Pluses and minuses will be used. Discussions will be evaluated based on considered responses to questions. Assignments should be thorough, complete, and well written. A grading rubric will be provided once you are enrolled in the course.
